Superelastic Tires for Space Exploration

Senior Design Project

Aug 2024 - May 2025

  • Developed 6.5-inch superelastic tire using Nitinol wire to evaluate load-carrying capabilities and bead angle effects on deformation

  • Fabricated dynamic testing setup incorporating 80/20, linear actuator, load cell, and walking pad to analyze tire performance

  • Won 2nd place at AIAA Region VI Student Conference, first group to successfully replicate NASA’s superelastic tire technology

  • Collaborated with NASA GRC to replicate NASA Superelastic Tire using 400 ft of Nitinol wire sponsored by Fort Wayne Metals

  • Developed efficient method for tire manufacturing and testing, observed similarity in static and dynamic load responses

Comparison of PLA Between Different Manufacturers

Junior Design Project for Mechoptronics B

April 2024 - May 2024

  •  3D-printed dog-bone coupons from 5 PLA manufacturers to observe effects of environmental conditions during polymerization

  • Utilized ANYLOAD load cells, amplifier circuit, and LabView DAQ to run tensile testing until fracture of testing coupons

  • Calculated and plotted stress-strain curves to find yield and ultimate stresses for each manufacturer of PLA

Quadcopter Design

Drone Design Project for Computer-Aided Engineering

  • Modeled and assembled mini quadcopter drone in NX, drafted engineering drawings including GD&T

  • Ran static FEA on drone arm in NX with varying load conditions and determined mesh convergence

Turboprop Design

Design Project for Flight Mechanics

Apr 2023 - May 2023

  • Optimized ATR 42-600 to be 20% more energy efficient using MATLAB and other computational methods

  • Utilized MATLAB to create drag profiles and turning envelope graphs, created CAD model of FF 50-261 plane in SolidWorks

  • Conducted weight analysis of composite wings and compared hybrid fuel options to increase efficiency and reduce total weight

Cabin Design

Boeing Engineering Workshop of Industry, Networking, and Guidance

Feb 2022

  • Designed interior of a Boeing 737 MAX-7 to accommodate customer profile while following criterion for FAA regulations

  • Calculated components such as floor loading, center of mass, fuel consumption, and power draw

  • Adjusted design to optimize all aspects and minimize total cost

  • Presented design to panel of judges and was awarded 1st place in competition

Glider Project

Project for Introduction to Aerospace Engineering

Nov 2021

  • Assembled balsa wood glider with a team of 6 individuals and wrapped it in monokote

  • Reported glider design specifications and calculated estimated glide ranges

  • Wrote technical report on testing results including theory and experiment comparison, as well as specifications for improvement

  • Had longest flying time and distance of 57m

  • Researched historical and modern space campaigns (e.g., Apollo, SpaceX, NASA+, Adidas, Budweiser) to assess how marketing influences public support and funding for space missions

  • Proposed original space branding campaigns for Crumbl Cookies, Dyson, and LEGO to foster public interest, STEM engagement, and future lunar tourism

Mars Surface Habitat Design Project

Final Project for Human Spaceflight

Oct 2024 - Dec 2024

  • Authored technical report on theoretical Mars habitat, covering site selection, Earth-Mars transit, and crew health considerations

  • Designed a human-rated ECLSS, detailing subsystems for atmospheric control, CO2 removal, and thermal regulation

  • Developed EVA operations, including airlock controls, flight rules, depress/repress procedures, and emergency contingencies
